Scottish Bass Trust

Welcome to The Scottish Bass Trust

The Scottish Bass Trust exists to promote both knowledge and enjoyment of the double bass by:
  • Providing opportunities for players to develop their skills.
  • Promoting public performance and appreciation of double bass music.
  • Procuring the composition of new works for the instrument.

Since the Trust was formed as a Scottish charity in March 1993 it has carried out a series of projects (some in conjunction with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), which have attracted not only Scottish attendees, but also participants from other parts of Great Britain, Europe and the rest of the world. At most of these events, internationally acclaimed soloists in both the classical and jazz fields have led workshops, master classes and given public concerts.

Outreach Bass Clinics for both adults and young people, led by players of local and international repute, have been held in Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Perth, St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

We have commissioned bass quartets, massed ensemble pieces and a concerto, and most recently a piece (shared with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra) from Haflidi Hallgrimsson - see Sonnambulo.
